About Dr. Aarati

Aarati Asundi is the illustrator and science explainer for Green Juice. Here is a bit about her life:

While studying for my Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at UCSF, I had a "quarter-life crisis". I was surrounded by researchers who were so dedicated to their experiments, they would work through the nights gathering and analyzing reams of data. And that just wasn't me.

I was the weird one who volunteered to represent our lab at every conference because I liked sharing my research even more than I enjoyed doing the research itself. I LOVED putting together slides and writing my thesis (crazy, I know).

So when I realized science communication was a viable career path, I finally felt like I found my calling. I founded Sykom, a communications media agency for science and technology.

Recently, I also launched Smart Tea, a science history podcast which delves deep into the lives of scientists who have changed our world.

Through my work, I want to show everyone that scientists are people too. Our motivations for working in STEM are often deeply personal and rooted in the human experience. I hope that through my writing and illustrations, I can make science a bit more fun and accessible, no matter what your background is.

And maybe you'll be inspired to one day make your own contributions to science and learning... one can dream :)
